Southwestern University

Located in the heart of Central Texas, Southwestern University is a four-year  liberal arts college committed to fostering a community that cultivates the well-being of humanity.  The first institution of higher learning in the state of Texas, Southwestern University was founded in 1840 and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Southwestern is comprised of two main schools: The Brown College of Arts and Sciences and The Sarofim School of Fine Arts. 

Campus and Community

With approximately 1,400 students, Southwestern University’s campus is located in the residential historic town of Georgetown, TX.  Southwestern’s students enjoy a close proximity to the lively city of Austin—known by many as the live music capital of the US with a vibrant, bustling culture. Academics

Southwestern University offers 27 majors for students to explore. Additionally, there are pre-professional and certification programs in medicine, law, education, engineering, and theology at Southwestern. 

Southwestern has a student/faculty ratio of 11:1, with an average class size of 14 students. More than 95 percent of classes offered have 29 or fewer students. The faculty at Southwestern University works with its students, so collaborative research and publication with students is common.

Student Life

According to the 2012-2013 student body profile, Southwestern is home to 1,394 students. About 29% of Southwestern’s students come from a minority background. Texas residents comprised 89% of Southwestern University’s student body while students from other states and nations made up 11% of the student body. Overall, 33 states and 11 countries are represented in the students of Southwestern.

Southwestern University is part of NCAA Division III athletics and also offers a vast amount of student clubs and organizations, including fraternities and sororities.
